Royal Winter Fair

April 24, 2012

Where does the time go?  Last November I got the chance to take my 3rd year Animation students drawing at the Royal Winter Fair .  This massive agricultural fair has been around for nearly 100 years. It fills the Exhibition grounds with animals, exhibits and 100's of people. If you can go mid-week, it's an amazing place to draw. There are hundreds of cows, horses, small livestock like goats and llamas, a couple of petting zoos, and the surreal Superdogs show. There are always students wandering around scribbling into sketchbooks so you won't feel out of place. I actually spent 2 full days here which seemed to just fly by. I dabbled in a bunch of different styles - my favorite medium, Stabilo All grease pencils, graphite and watercolours, pigment brush pens and, of course, my spiffy iPad2. 2 days of drawing - man, it's tiring all that focusing! Good thing there are nice little beer tents there too.
